The Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS) provides extended time-off and research funding to outstanding investigators in the humanities and social sciences, allowing them to focus on research and writing. Each awardee receives up to HK$1 million for a period of up to 12 months, covering relief from teaching and administrative duties, salary costs for relief teachers, and research support including staff, equipment, travel, subsistence, and dissemination costs.
Applicants must be academic staff members of UGC-funded universities with full-time appointments, holding staff grades from 'A' to 'I' (Professor to Assistant Lecturer), primarily engaged in degree or higher degree work, and with salary wholly funded by the university. Visiting scholars are not eligible, and awardees cannot compete again.
