The Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) supports multi-investigator, multi-disciplinary projects to encourage cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional collaboration among UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong. It comprises three grant types: Collaborative Research Project Grant (CRPG), Collaborative Research Equipment Grant (CREG), and Young Collaborative Research Grant (YCRG). CRPG funds collaborative research projects, CREG funds major equipment or facilities, and YCRG supports early-stage academic staff in leading collaborative research.

Eligible applicants are academic staff members of UGC-funded universities with full-time appointments, primarily engaged in degree or higher degree work, and wholly funded by the university. For YCRG, the PC must be within three years of an Associate Professor appointment or within 12 years of post-doctoral experience. Visiting scholars are not eligible for YCRG.
