The Sir Hugh Kawharu Masters Scholarship for Innovation in Science, administered by Royal Society Te Apārangi, is a $10,000 scholarship supporting and encouraging masters level study by Māori in the sciences. It is applicable across a broad range of science disciplines including physical, mathematical, computational, earth, environment, marine, social, health, biological, biomedical, human, and behavioural sciences. Recipients must provide a progress report after the first six months of study.
Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a one or two year masters degree in a science discipline and be persons of Māori descent able to explain their tribal connections. Suitability is assessed on academic excellence, leadership ability, integrity, and potential contribution to Māori social and/or economic development.
