The Frontiers Planet Prize is an international prize established by the Frontiers Research Foundation to accelerate scientific solutions to planetary challenges. Royal Society Te Apārangi, as the National Representative Body for Aotearoa New Zealand, selects up to three national winners each year to put forward to the international Frontiers Prize jury. The prize is based on the nine planetary boundaries and aims to mobilize scientists to address the global environmental crisis. International Champions each receive 1 million Swiss francs to support their continuing research.
Scientists from all disciplines are eligible, as long as their articles were accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal in the two years prior to 31 October of the current year. Their research must have the potential to generate breakthroughs that could be scaled up as solutions to global environmental challenges. Research organisations must first register as a National Nominating Body.
